Core promise

Nothing True Shot collects leaves your browser unless you explicitly click Copy screenshot, Copy text, or another export action. There is no background telemetry, no analytics beacon, and no silent upload.

What we access (and why)

True Shot only runs on the tab you activate — via the toolbar icon or Alt+Shift+X. We use the activeTab permission, not broad host access to all websites.

Local storage

True Shot stores two things locally on your device using chrome.storage.local:

  • Your most recent capture (so copy buttons work after capture)
  • First-run onboarding status (so the tutorial only shows once)

This data is not synced to the cloud and is not shared with OGX Studio.

URL redaction

Query parameters that look like tokens or secrets (e.g. token, session, auth, password) are replaced with [redacted] in exported metadata. This is a best-effort convenience — always review captures before sharing, especially on internal admin tools.

Permissions

  • activeTab — temporary access to the tab you interact with
  • scripting — inject the capture overlay on demand
  • clipboardWrite — copy screenshot and details when you ask
  • offscreen — write rich clipboard content (image + text)
  • storage — save latest capture and onboarding flag locally

True Shot does not request access to all URLs, browsing history, or background tab reading.

What we do not protect against

  • Sensitive data visible on screen (PII, passwords in form fields) — True Shot captures what you see, like any screenshot tool.
  • Non-standard sensitive URL parameters our redaction patterns do not recognize.
